7.5 Weeks

It has been 7 1/2 weeks since Joshua was born. He has grown by leaps and bounds, and he has lost the newborn look. It is sad that the tiny stage just does not last very long. He is still just as calm as ever. Joshua is sleeping a lot better now too. He was nursing 4 to 5 times a night and now he is only nursing 1 to 2 times a night.

As far as I go, I have 20 to 30 pounds to lose. I gained 10 pounds after Anya was born that I never lost. Then I gained another 10 pounds after Joseph was born that I never lost, and now I am still another 10 pounds heavier. If I lose just 20 pounds, I will be okay with that. If I lose 30 pounds I will be back to my college weight. That would be nice, but I am older and I have had 8 babies. I will be satisfied with being 10 pounds heavier than I was when I was 19.

My weight loss plan is to lay off desserts and to exercise 3 to 5 days a week. I have worked out part b pretty well. I bought a used elliptical last Saturday and I am using it during nap time. We don't always have a nap time. But we do have a nap time at least 3 to 5 days a week. Since this has always been my personal time, I won't be losing any time that I spend cleaning the house or interacting with my family. When it warms up a little more, I want to start taking my babies on long evening walks. We live near a city trail, so that could work out well.

The part I am finding challenging is eating less sugar. My kids expect cookies after school most days. Most days I make them cookies. Then I eat the cookies too. I am either going to have to listen to a lot of complaining kids eating fruit (which we do, but if we do fruit for every snack instead of homemade cookies, my food budget jumps up a lot.) or just stop eating the cookies. I think I should just work on self control. I find it easy to not eat too much and to not eat anything sugary until school gets out. Then I am tired and want to eat junk along with my kids. Anyway, I have to work on this a lot! Does anyone have any ideas?

I have to say that that Joshua is a sweetie! I love how calm he is and hope that Evelyn will be too... but I've had two calm babies in a row... I can't expect to have three. Good luck with losing weight... that's always a challenge. Here's a tip for helping your body deal with sugars... eat 30 carbs and 15 proteins 4-5 times a day... (doesn't matter which carbs, but the healthier the carb the better for you of course). Then you can eat as many veggies and fruits that you want to supplement it... but with my PCOS and not being able to lose weight easily... this has been the only diet that has helped me not gain weight... maybe it would help you lose weight.

A friend is trying a new-to-her diet that seems to help curb the desire for sweets.

Here's the link to her blogpost about it:

And, thanks for the cleaning tips in your last post! They couldn't have been more timely! We had to have the roto-rooter guys come and their machine left some messes. Cleaning them up was no problem, thanks to your cleaning tips! :)

oh he is so cute!

as for your weight loss plan, all I have to say is that I don't have any self control. If it's my house, I will eat it. And I do have whiney children when I say we don't have cookies, or ice cream, or candy. now, I only have 2 kids so having fruit for snacks, which is our current routine, is more expensive than cookies, but not a lot. with 8 kids I am sure it is quite a lot. but it's the only thing that has worked for me - no treats in the house.

actually, every now and then I still make treats...but what I've been doing is setting aside exactly the amount I want for james and each kid, and then giving all the rest to nieghbors. I just instantly put them on a plate with plastic wrap so that I won't eat them. if I know they are for someone else, that keeps me from eating it...
