James 1: 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Abortion has literally changed the way an entire culture thinks. 80 years ago most of the people in the world knew that their children were a blessing. People saw raising children simply as a part of a happy life. Growing girls that wanted to grow and up and bare children were the norm. Today, growing girls that even speak of a desire to be a mother above a type of career are considered weird or brainwashed. In our world, children have become a burden and a choice. This feeling is everywhere-- religious populations and non-religious populations-- in America, Europe, Asia, and even parts of Africa.
As I sit in a little room at church feeding my baby with other mother's feeding their babies, we only talk about how difficult children are. Young, new mother's while cuddling and nursing their sweet baby act repulsed at the idea of having more children. We talk about motherhood as a sacrifice and nothing more-- a sacrifice of our careers, bodies, sleep, free time, intellect, and social lives. The idea that motherhood is a blessing, part of a happy life, and actually fun does not occur to us. We do not think this way because we do not love our children. These women I sit with are the best of the best. They put their children first in their lives. They are tender and kind and anxiously engaged in raising good children. We think and feel this way about motherhood because
everyone does. That is the way our culture thinks.
From the women who are not the best of the best-- the women who put anything and everything in their lives above birthing children and raising children-- the women for whom the stars must be aligned for a child to be "wanted"-- the women that fight tirelessly for "reproductive choice"-- we get to hear the most gruesome speeches. From MSNBC's host,
Melissa Harris-Perry about the beginning's of life:
"When does life begin? I submit the answer depends an awful lot on the
feeling of the parents. A powerful feeling – but not science."
From Obama Judicial Nominee and mother of 2,
Cornelia Pillard about ultrasounds:
“deceptive images of fetus-as-autonomous-being that the anti-choice movement has popularized since the advent of amniocentesis."
From
Alissa LaPolt Snow, a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood, about infanticide:
"We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician."
In 1959 while speaking about birth control, Joseph Fielding Smith declared:
"It brings in its train a host of social evils. It destroys the
morals of a community and nation. It creates hatred and selfishness in
the hearts of men and women, and pervert their natural qualities of love
and service, changing them to hate and aversion. It causes death,
decay, and degeneration instead of life, growth, and advancement. And
finally, it disregards or annuls the great commandment of God to man,
"Multiply and replenish the earth."
--Elder Joseph Fielding Smith ("A Vital Question," IE1908Oct:1959-60) TLDP 529
President's Smith's prophecy has been fulfilled. Even the best of us have had our "natural qualities of love and service" perverted. We have been trained to think that we are too good or too important to make the sacrifices necessary for parenthood. Or we are taught that we are not good enough or not wealthy enough to qualify for parenthood. Both are lies.
"Hate and aversion" are words that truthfully describe how the general population feels about children.
Comments taken from an article written about the Duggar family illustrate this phenonenom prefectly.
-
“Disgusting on some [sic] many levels”
-
“Please stop reporting on these freaks. They need counseling and the
girls need real futures instead of the slavery of reproduction.”
-
“REPULSIVE. These people are REPULSIVE. They and their REPULSIVE
elders are professional f**kers, hiding under the guise of religion
(which is even more REPULSIVE).”
-
“They are so saturated in their religious beliefs and think that it's
normal to have that many children..idiots. They are addicted to having
babies like an alcoholic addicted to alcohol...no difference.
-
“These people are despicable and should be executed for crimes against humanity.”
-
“These people need to be spayed & neutered.”
-
“the breeding like rats continues....”
"Death,
decay, and degeneration instead of life, growth, and advancement" is a prophecy fulfilled. Our society views children as a choice. In our society, mother's kill their own children-- death, decay, and degeneration abound. And death abounds not just from abortion.
Mothers abandon, flush, and trash their newborn infants. That is the gruesome part.
Fallen birth rates indicate the lack of life, growth, and advancement.
The truth is children are a blessing. Yes, we have the agency to choose to have children. But when we purposely choose to not have children we are choosing instead to be selfish. We are choosing to go against our natural qualities of love and service. We are choosing not to become who God would have us be when we allow Him to bless us with our children.
Even I, a mother of 9, have had to work to flush from my thinking the idea that children are a choice and a burden. My children are not a burden. They are not a choice. They are a blessing.
