4th of July Family Reunion

The Robertson side of John's family is huge. John's grandparents are 90 and still going and going. They had 6 children, 40 grandchildren, and now they have 71 great grandchildren, with four more on the way.

Every year for about the last 7 years, John's parents put on a big family reunion for the Robertson side of the family during the 4th of July holiday. We never have everyone there. It is several days of a lot of fun, food, and family. On friday we missed the hike because of rush hour traffic, but we got to go to Grandma's house for the hot dog roast and smores. On Saturday, we went swimming, had a BBQ, and had an amazing display of fireworks done in Grandma's driveway. We got to meet cousins we didn't know very well. Johnny, Ruth, and Kate spent a lot of the car ride trying to figure out who all of these people are. Finally, they just decided everyone must be related. (That is usually true at a family reunion :))

On Sunday, we went to Uncle Alan's for dinner, a talent show, and a chocolate tasting. Again we had, the how is so so related conversation on the way home. Monday, is the day the kids were most excited for. We go to Grandma's house and build pinewood derby cars and then have a race. Ruth, Kate, and Johnny had been designing their cars for a week and a half. But, Kate got sick (stomach flu number 3 since June 7th), so she and Dad stayed home. The Robertson's are very fun and creative, so there were a lot of neat cars. There was the Mystery Machine, a couch, a rotten banana, a double decker bus, a couple of snakes, a dragon, cats from Ruth and Rachel. Johnny made exactly the same car he had made last year because he won last year. Johnny didn't win this year, so he left the car and decided he needs a new design.

We have to give a big thank you to Grandma and Grandpa Robertson. They put a lot of work and a lot of money into this event every year. They provide a lot of the food and all of the clean-up. In fact, I feel a little guilty. I need to provide a little more of the clean up myself.

On Tuesday morning, I was wondering how we were going to get back into regular life. I didn't have to wonder long. The stomach flu has spread, so we have laid around and watched movies all week. I think we will be anxious to get back to schedule next week.

I think there are 5 on the way and one that was born about a week ago... Shelley just had hers, Amy, you, Maida, Mary, and Jenny... but she's trying to be careful because she usually miscarries 2 times between each kid... She's miscarried into the second trimester even.

And Sorry about the flu! I promise I didn't even really talk to your kids... There were others there that had it too though... it turns out that Judy relapsed again after the reunion so she was probably contagious that whole time anyways. And Ben and Em might have been but it had been about a week since they had been exposed so the 3-4 day contagious period should have been over for them.
