The Play

I have been reading The Lord of the Rings to my 3 oldest children. We have really enjoyed these books as a family. Well, the kids have started to play The Lord of the Rings. Today on into tonight they had made a pretty big event of "The Lord of the Rings Play" as they call it. Ruth was the Lady Eowin, from Rohan, and Kate was the Elf, Arwin, Elrond's daughter and Aragorn's love. Johnny was Frodo the ring bearer. After dinner Adam wanted to play too. At first Adam was Gollum, because he was killing Frodo, but then Adam wanted to be on the good side. He has been sitting up while we read the books lately and asked if he could be Strider. The older kids said that Adam could only be an orc or Gollum. John and I thought that this was rather funny because when John was a kid the three oldest kids in his family always played Star Wars. John and his brother James were always either Luke or Hans Solo, and his sister, Mary was always Leah. If their sister Margaret, the fourth child like Adam, wanted to play, they would only let her play if she would be ChewBacca.

Well, to help the matter some, I went in and told the kids that I was SauraMom. Every one laughed at that. Then 2 year old Rachel started marching around the house chanting, "Sorry-mom, Sorry-mom, Sorry-mom." John was just in Dad heaven with the cuteness of his kids playing something that he loves and acting the same way he did as a child.
