I have been running on the treadmill most weekdays since October. This week I took Ruth out on a couple of mile runs. She actually has asked for more which surprises me. I just wanted to say that running outside is so much better and so much easier. I like that I can visually see how far I have run. I like the fresh air and the trees. But I am grateful for the treadmill because I would have never started running in the neighborhood. I felt so humiliated running/walking about every 2 minutes the first few days. There is no way I wanted to share that with the neighborhood. Plus, I can easily run everyday while my babies play around me in our family room. But I can't just leave home to run anytime.
Kate came on my run with Ruth last night and said, "We need a movie. How can we watch a movie while we run." pause. "Oh, that is why they built treadmills!" Sorry Kate but I would take the trees, the breeze, and the visual distance over the movie any day.

I totally agree. Besides when I run on a treadmill my bangs get in my face outside the wind blows them back. On a treadmill I can smell myself(and all of the guys around me, cause I work out at a gym) and outside the wind blows it back. Besides we all watch too many movies. anyway
I hate treadmills. Outside is way better. And i have to much to look at and enjoy that I don't really notice how far I've gone. On a treadmill it's just same place the whole time, staring intently on the time clock, or the distance, or your pace, and by one mile I'm finished!
Way to go to your young girls for running!
I love running outside especially here it is so beautiful. However, when it rains it can be too wet and cold so I am thankful for treadmill or other machines at our YMCA. I love the YMCA because they watch my children so I can workout! Great Christmas letter!! Is John offended when you call him fatter? Just wondering?
The last comment was really from Anne not Abby sorry!!
I love to run outdoors, too, but this time of year the treadmill does wonders. Plus, it's a great way to read the Ensign while walking at a brisk pace!
