Odds and Ends

When I first started blogging, I was very conscientious about how I wrote my posts. Now, I really just journal. I suppose, I don't feel like I have the time to pay careful attention to how  I write things, or to make sure they sound interesting or funny.  So here is a very round about journally post that will not be written well, and probably won't be very funny or interesting. Here goes boring post:

Johnny has had this lose tooth forever, at least since December. He won't even wiggle it. Ruth woke up with a lose tooth yesterday and pulled two out a few hours later. We are worried about Johnny's teeth growing in crooked; we have warned him that braces will hurt a lot more than pulling out his baby teeth. Finally, we grounded him from all electronics until he gets those teeth out. He's still not very motivated. I pulled at his tooth some, he cried, and said, "Now I have a toothache!"

My kids have the stomach flu again!!!!!!! In fact exactly a year ago, we had the worst stomach flu ever with 4 kids puking all night long, 5 kids the next day. I can't believe we had a child wake up in the middle of the night sick with the stomach flu on the anniversary of that night. UGGGHHHHH. So I must count. Since we moved to Utah just over a year ago we have had the stomach flu, or at least one kid puking, last June, twice in October, once in November, twice in January, twice in February, once in March, another very bad one around the move in April, once in May, and now in June. I have had enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have framed pictures of my kids art up in the kitchen. Last night, I switched some of the pictures with the help of Ruth and Kate. This morning, Ruth, Kate, and Johnny sat at the table making nicely colored drawings to replace their old ones. I just loved watching them so peacefully drawing and coloring. Rachel, who is currently sick, came down later, saw the new pictures on the wall and drew a colorful one too.

Johnny's hair has reached the point of yucky too long. He looks like Shaggy on Scooby Doo minus the facial hair. Kate tried to finish the picture by drawing some facial hair on Johnny's chin for him. I think it is time to get the scissors out.

We are supposed to have our family picture taken tomorrow, but I think it will be rainy and cold and we may a have a sick kid. I should probably cancel, but we have been trying to do this for months.

It is cold enough outside today that I shut off the central air and turned on the heat.

Okay, so that is the end of my random thoughts about life right now.

I'm sorry about the stomach flu! Yuck! I sure hope everyone gets better and can stay better soon! It seems like colds are the name of the day in our house... We always have someone with a runny nose.

Hi Diane,
I saw your post about Johnny and the long-term loose tooth. That sound a bit odd to have a wiggler for so long. It may not be loose naturally - it could be loose because it is broken at the root and possibly splintered. Anyway, I also found this instruction online that might be worth reading in case it truly isn't
his own fault that that tooth won't come out..... no fun being grounded for something nature is holding back on for some reason.
I mean sometimes nature has other plans for our bodies that we really shouldn't mess with. I vote he gets to be ungrounded until a dentist is consulted - but maybe that has already happened and he needs to be grounded - obviously I am not his parent and you are more than capable of parenting him - but it seems if that tooth was really ready it would have come out by now - even by eating tough food, etc.
"Out with the old
Encourage your child to gently wiggle a wobbler. Some loose teeth can actually be rotated because the root underneath has almost completely disintegrated.

But remind your child not to yank a tooth before it's ready to fall out on its own because it makes the broken root more vulnerable to infection. A loose tooth that refuses to come out may need to be pulled by a dentist, though this is hardly ever necessary.

Losing baby teeth is seldom as painful a process as teething. If your 5- or 6-year-old complains of pain in the back of his mouth, it's probably the 6-year molars coming in. (He has no baby teeth there to fall out first). A topical painkiller, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen can ease the ache, though it's unlikely to last long."

Good luck,
Elisabeth

Johnny's tooth= Do what Dad always suggested to us--use a wrench! Just kidding. I can't offer any suggestions since mine are still getting their baby teeth in!
