Celebrate The Family Proclamation 2012

Every year on the anniversary of the Family a Proclamation to the World, some bloggers get together and spend two weeks on their blog devoted to learning about the Proclamation on the family. This year these bloggers celebrating are found at Chocolate on My Cranium, We Talk of Christ, Diapers and Divinity, and Middle-Aged Mormon Man. These bloggers will each have posts up, mainly by other bloggers about the Family Proclamation everyday. I hope you can come and enjoy this bloggy celebration.

Brigham City Temple Open House

Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to take our kids to the Brigham City Temple Open House. Grandma Robertson reserved the tickets for everyone. John and I and 8 of our children, Jer and Rosanne and their 3 children came with Grandma and Grandpa. I really like that we had the opportunity to let our children walk through and see the inside of the Temple.  John and I  talked to the kids about the different rooms. I like that they get to see how simply beautiful and peaceful the temple feels. The little kids agreed that the temple does feel like a house Jesus would want to enter. I walked through the Seattle Temple open house when I was seven. I cherished that experience for years. It is great to be able to give my young children that same experience.

 Highlights

Grandma and Grandpa helped our smaller children stay reverent. Joseph anxiously tried to join the family in line ahead of us. Jer said, "Oh for Heaven's sake, " to his son in the Celestial room. John hobbled on his not completely healed broken leg carrying Arwen. Joshua happily clung to Grandma the whole time.  Johnny told the bus driver that his favorite rooms were the Celestial room and the Sealing Room, and Rachel was mostly interested in the white plastic footies over her shoes.

Don't Laugh...

This was originally going to be titled: Don't Laugh, Daddy Dressed Me. I came home from a trip to the Temple with Ruth and Kate and this is how Arwen had been dressed.

Notice she has a light pink flowery shirt on underneath a bright orange striped dress. When I had the chance, I asked John if he had dressed Arwen. He laughed and said yes and no. He did dress her, but Johnny picked out her clothes. 

Can't you tell that Arwen is terribly unhappy about this serious fashion crisis?

Rachel came out of her primary class with a list of her talents. Here is what Rachel believes she is talented in.

Printing the Blog

Our desk top died last week. We lost a few pictures, but mostly, we have all of our pictures on a couple of computers and on my blog, so it wasn't tragic (other then we are down one computer.). However, the loss, reminded me that my blog, while fun socially, is mainly my family scrap book, and it would be safer as a book. So I looked into getting it printed. To print all that I have blogged between September 2007 and now would be around $250. Still, I am going to do it. I am going to print each year into its own book  (like an encyclopedia set).

I am going to start blogging in a scrap booking sort of way, the 10 years of my marriage prior to the beginning of my blog. That will probably just be one book on it's own as I do not have many journal entries before then. I have seen a preview of the sept 2007-2008 book. I really like this combination of journaling and scrapbooking.

For those who want to know. I am using this place, for easy peasy publishing. You just type in your blogger url and VIOLA, a book!

A Stirring and Powerful Speech

Michelle Obama gave a stirring and powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday. She recalled a heart-warming love story between herself and the President. She talked about some of the values that mean the most to me and many Americans—family and hard work. She ended with, “God Bless America”. I loved her speech!

From all appearances, the Obama’s family is very much like my own—a family consisting of a committed husband and wife with children born within the bonds of matrimony. The Obama family and my own family both value hard work and education. We love and teach our children and serve in the community. But there are some very real differences in what we believe and accept—differences large enough to make me question the sincerity of Mrs. Obama’s speech.

This week at the very same convention, the Democratic Party officially added abortion and gay marriage to their platform. They nearly threw out all references to God. President Obama has been very clear about his support of abortion and gay marriage both at home and abroad. The President consistently supports laws that are very anti-family. He claims to be religious, yet he makes laws that destroy religious freedom.

I relate to what Mrs. Obama said in her speech. But, I cannot agree that it is a “right” to kill one’s unborn child. I do not agree that gay marriage is about love and equality. I do not agree that all types of families and everyone’s sexual choices are equal. I firmly believe that a successful society and nation is built in the homes of the people—homes that consist of faithful husbands and wives who together care for their children. I will give my support to the candidate that makes and supports laws and policies that protect the family, religion, and freedom.
