Esther has now been with us for 11 days. She cries when she is hungry if I am not right there, and she cries when she is lonely. But she is still just as calm as can be. Esther is happy to have her brothers and sisters hold her and talk to her. She seems to come to life when you sing to her. But mostly, Esther is sleepy. She sleeps a lot right now. We suspect that she will wake up around 6 weeks like Ruth did. But she is another little Joy.

Finally Caught
Christmas Vacation
We had a lovely Christmas in Utah with the Robertson Family and Seth and Amber Pardon. Our kids loved playing with their cousins, Aunts, and Uncles, the game cube, and the Nintendo Wii. We ate a lot of junk food. I suspect that John and I gained a good ten pounds each. Fortunately, John will never have to know. We do not have a scale and Gramma's scale weighed us each about 25 pounds less upon arrival at their house. We are sure that that is not just the change in altitude. I get to find out on Monday. But I have to diet in two weeks when I am not pregnant anymore anyway so why not enjoy all of the chocolate? It was great. Our kids liked all of their Christmas presents and even got to take a game cube home which they bought used from Aunt Amber with their Christmas money. We all had such a wonderful time visiting and getting to know some of our relatives better. Some of the highlights were sledding and having pizza and hot cocoa at Jon and Amy's house;Kate and John going out to eat with Jeremy and Roseanne; Ruth, Kate, and Johnny playing the Nintendo Wii with Uncle James Clary and Uncle Jay; easy access to the temple for John and I; my kids jumping all over my brother Seth; Adam getting to run and wrestle with cousin James; and of course just being there and talking and having fun with a bunch of wonderful people. We really did have a wonderful vacation.
Kate Quotes
Here are two funny things that Kate said while we were in Utah for Christmas Break.
- When I told her that we would like to take them sledding. She said, "Please don't take me sledding in the mountains." I told her we were sledding in the mountains and that was called skiing. Kate responded, "That must be against the law."
- When we drove back up to Gramma's house after shopping with Gramma, Gramma said,"I hope Grampa won't be mad at me." Kate asked why. Gramma said that she spent too much money and Kate said,"Is Grampa like my Dad?"
Letter to Jesus
While we were away we went to church one week in Laramie, WY with our cousins there and one week in Orem, UT. The week in Laramie the primary kids had to write a letter to Jesus for sharing time. When I got out of relief society, Kate handed me an envelope and said, "take this. This is so stupid. We had to write a letter to Jesus." I looked at the envelope and saw : "to Jesus Christ from Kate Robertson" with a drawn on US flag stamp on one side and "mail to hevin" on the other side. In the car I opened it up and this is what it said:
Dear Jesus
I know it is crazy
to rite to you
when I cood
jest pray to you.
I know your a very
very very very very
inportined man and
I don't know what
to say besieds that.
Love Kate

I thought exactly the same thing when they told me they had to write a letter to Jesus. It is funny how John and I have passed down our distaste for cutsie things. But sometimes rather pleasing.

It's not fair
Johnny and Ruth play a lot of games together. Ruth has always been very competitive, and Johnny has usually taken defeat with grace until now. Last week Johnny punched Ruth in the stomach because she told him to have his computer game guy jump, he jumped the guy and the guy died. A few days later Johnny punched Ruth during a game of memory. When we asked him why he explained that it was not fair because Ruth is just too smart. Ruth was getting lots and lots of matches because she is smart and that is just not fair. Okay, well I understand I am sure I have wanted to punch some one for being smart sometime too.
John read this and said, "Why does Johnny sound so terrible? He is such a good kid. Those are Johnny's isolated incidents in a sea of calmness while some of our other kids have isolated calmness in a sea of violence." That is true. Johnny is really really good and mild. In fact he was the first start student in his kindergarten class for showing compassion. Good Job, Johnny, er, at least, Good Job (Mostly) Johnny.
