Adam's Power

At dinner we were having a family discussion about super powers or just having powers in general. The conversation came up because Kate really wants to watch an anime series that John and I have been watching without the kids. At one point Adam said, "I used to not know that I have a power." John asked Adam a little more about his power and Adam explained, "I have falling down powers whenever I wear heely's." (Heelys are sneakers with wheels at the heels.)

Adam's Song

Note: Sometimes I have nothing to write about like last week, and other times there is so much. Like right now. The kids have just given me a lot to write about, and John has also reminded me of things that ought to be written down.

This morning Adam was singing a song that he was making up himself. Some of his lines were:

I am good at kicking and punching
When I get so mad so mad so mad

He could write pop songs and be successful.

Kate said, "This is so funny. Boys are not supposed to want to be singers. There are like no boy pop stars."

Johnny in Sacrament Meeting

During the passing of the Sacrament last Sunday, I had to take Anya out because she started to really cry. That left John with the other five kids. John was several seats away from Johnny. When the Sacrament tray was passed to Johnny he did not pass it on. The person closest to Johnny that was not a child was Brother McDaniel (another father of 6). Brother McDaniel tried to get Johnny to pass the tray by motioning to him to do so. When Johnny still wouldn't pass the tray, he told him to pass the tray. Johnny said, "No, I am saving it for my mom."

Do I Not Understand Anymore?

Tonight during a big crying fit because I threw the box cover to her American Girl doll box, a necklace, and an old make-up toy cell phone thing away, Ruth said, "You just don't understand me." I was taken back a bit at first, but just agreed that that was probably true and would become more true as she gets a little older. But does this mean that "I hate my parents-- they just don't understand" thing starts, or is it just a preview and I have two more years of a nice little girl like I thought? In the past I would have just said, "Oh, she is tired. Put her to bed." But I'm not sure being tired is the real answer to every emotional outburst of an older child or teenager. I did just put Ruth to bed tonight, though, and after she had been in bed about 10 minutes, she got up and apologized. She really is a very good girl.

Ruth Turns 11

Well, I have officially been a mom for 11 years. That sounds longer than it seems. Ruth is a very sweet, good girl. I think she had a good birthday. I took her bowling and out to ice cream with two of her friends on Saturday and then we had a family party on her birthday on Sunday. Ruth wrote about her birthday on her own blog at http://ruthrobertson.blogspot.com/.
